When you’re in the process of hiring someone, you’ll feel much more comfortable with a candidate who has many recommendations. It’s always good to know you’re working with someone who has a good reputation and quality service. When you hire a website developer, you are handing over a huge responsibility to them– the creation of your website. This is why you want to find recommendations for a website developer before hiring them.

How to Find Recommendations for a Website Developer

Recommendations can tell you a lot about a person’s work quality and ethic. You obviously want to hire the best website developer who will deliver great results. Recommendations for a website developer can be a little tricky to find. Here are some ways to find recommendations:

Ask People You Know

If you know anyone who owns a website, you can ask them if they have any website developer recommendations. This is a great way to get a referral for an experienced and trustworthy website developer. In fact, many of the websites we build, for our clients, came to us because a friend of our client referred them. 

Look at Other Websites and See Who Developed Them

When browsing different websites, see if any catch your eye because of their design, load speed and functionality. This is a wonderful way to find a website developer who is capable of developing a website you love. Website developers usually leave their company name at the bottom of websites they developed, along with a hyperlink to their website, making it easy for other people to contact them. If the website you’re looking at does not have their developer listed, you can still figure out who the developer was. Simply send an email to the website owner and ask who they used. Not only will this help you find the developer, but it will also make the website owner happy, because you will have essentially complemented them on their own website.

Do a Google Search to Find Recommendations For a Website Developer

Doing a Google search to find a website developer will show you which developers are able to get on the first page of search results. As mentioned above, a website developer who knows how to practice SEO is very valuable. If they can get their website to rank well, chances are rather good they can help you rank well too. However, it’s worth pointing out that SEO is a huge field, and there are many professionals who practice SEO and don’t do anything at all with website development. Just because someone builds websites, doesn’t mean they necessarily specialize in providing SEO services. And if they do provide SEO services, it may come at an additional cost. If your rankings on Google are important to you, then definitely consider asking your website developer if they do SEO.  

Google allows businesses to create free listings. This is done in the platform called Google My Business. On this platform, clients are able to leave the website developer feedback on their services and results. Not every website developer will have a Google My Business listing, but if they do, it is a great resource for you as a prospective client. Do a Google search on a developer you’re thinking about hiring. Then, see what kind of ratings and reviews they have on Google. Also, if you own a business, be sure to have your own Google My Business listings created. This will be super helpful for your own Google rankings.
